What is the Personal Response Task?

This task has some features of a Text Response Essay:

  • You will need to respond to a question and discuss what Stand By Me is saying about that question.
In this exemplar, the question is: “How do Friendships help the boys on their journey towards adulthood”
  • You need to provide, and analyse evidence from the film- but the evidence can be stills or short clips, rather than having to write what happened.
  • You need to analyse how the features of the text have helped to create or enhance or highlight that meaning.
For a film, this means you will be drawing on CAMELS

But it also requires you to make connections between what you are saying about Stand By Me with

  • Other texts
  • Your own lived experience (or those around you)
  • Things from around the world that you know about (eg. people you don’t know)

What is a blog:

A blog is an informational website that is based around a particular theme.  Often they are created by a single person- eg. someone might have a blog about the food they cook for their family; or an entire company- eg. some news organisations have blogs about news and current affairs that have many contributors.

Blogs are usually written using a casual register- almost like you are talking to someone- rather than the academic register expected in an essay.

They also contain a mix of written text, images, links to other websites or pages within the blogs, and often video/audio content.
